Thinking of taking your pet on holiday?
The Pet Passport scheme allows
virtually free movement of pets within the EU, and to
and from some other countries.
Your pet must be identified
using a chip, vaccinated against rabies, and blood tested
to ensure that he or she has sufficient immunity. Your
pet can leave the country at any time after this, but
will not be allowed to re-enter the UK until 6 months
after a positive blood test.
All pets now need a passport
to move around the EU, however the blood test is only
required to re-enter the UK. If you are not coming back,
you needn't have it done, but you will still need the
ID chip and rabies vaccination to enter any other EU
country. There are now no export/import forms
between EU countries.
