Osteopathy

Osteopathy has an increasingly important place in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, especially in this day and age when people are turning away as much as possible from traditional drug treatments. That is not to say that osteopathy will replace such conventional treatments completely in every case, however, with judicious use, the levels of conventional drug use can often be reduced. We now have an ostoepath, Mrs Anna Cadzow available by appointment and referral on a Wednesday afternoon. If your dog (or cat) is currently under treatement at this practice for arthritis, why not give us a call and arrange an appointment. If under treatment at another practice, please feel free to consult your veterinary surgeon with a view to a referral appointment for ostopathy treatment. You will not be asked to change your veterinary surgeon.

New Blood Cell Counting Machine

Continued improvements and upgrades to our laboratory have lead to the purchase of a new cell counter for the accurate identification and counting of blood cell types in a blood sample. Our previous machine, which we still use for screening purposes, made certain assumptions regarding cell type sizes, and from this guesstimated the numbers in a spun down Packed Cell Volume tube. This new machine from Idexx passes 80,000 cells through a counting chamber, using a laser beam to optically identify each cell. At the same time, mixed with the sample, it counts 40,000 calibration balls of a known size and shape, thereby recalibrating itself every 2 or 3 cells!
